Our story

Built so you can finallyhear yourself.

Sessions exists because the gap between “how are you?” and what you actually feel is enormous — and most apps haven't tried to close it.

Why we built this

“Fine” was hiding a hundred other feelings.

We started Sessions after realizing how often we — and the people around us — defaulted to a single word for everything we felt. Fine. Tired. Stressed. Convenient labels for emotional landscapes that deserved actual maps.

We pored over Plutchik's wheel of emotions, Russell's circumplex, and decades of affect research. We talked to therapists about what their clients struggled to name. We built a vocabulary of fifty emotions — not because anyone needs that many in a day, but because some day, you might.

And we wired it all to an AI that asks gentler questions than most humans do.

Values

Three things we don't compromise on.

Empathy

Emotions deserve nuance, not a 1–5 rating. We design every interaction assuming you're bringing real feelings to the page.

Privacy

Your inner world stays yours. Local-first by default, end-to-end encryption when you sync. We never sell your reflections.

Insight

Patterns are powerful — but they should arrive gently, not as a lecture. We surface what you'd notice yourself, given time.

Our approach

How we built our emotion taxonomy.

01

Grounded in research

Plutchik's wheel of emotions and Russell's circumplex give us a structured starting point — not as a textbook, but as scaffolding for real reflection.

02

Reviewed by therapists

Our clinical advisors helped us prune jargon, soften prompts, and add the emotions clients actually struggle to name out loud.

03

Tested with real people

A beta cohort spanning all four of our personas shaped the AI's tone — gentler than a journal prompt, sharper than a wellness app.

Who it's for

Built for everyone who'spaying attention.

Self-improvers

Health-conscious folks (25–45) who want to recognize patterns and build better habits — without a clinical framing.

Mental health journey

People managing anxiety or depression who want to monitor triggers and share grounded summaries with their therapist.

Students

High school and college students navigating academic stress, social changes, and the loneliness no one warned them about.

Therapists

Clinicians who want a private, exportable record their clients can keep between sessions — no admin burden, no algorithm playing therapist.
